Take this drug by mouth with or without food as advised by your doctor for obstructive sleep apnea, generally once daily in the morning. Continue your other therapy (such as the CPAP machine or oral device) until your doctor instructs you otherwise.
If you're using modafinil for shift work sleep problem, take it by mouth with or without food as advised by your doctor, generally once a day, one hour before your work shift begins.
The dosage is determined by your medical condition as well as your reaction to therapy. To get the most out of this drug, take it on a daily basis.
If you stop using this drug abruptly, you may have withdrawal symptoms (such as shaking, sweating, chills, nausea, vomiting, confusion). To assist avoid withdrawal, your doctor may gradually reduce your dose. If you have taken modafinil for a long period or in heavy dosages, you are more likely to have withdrawal symptoms. Precautions
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to modafinil or armodafinil, or if you have any additional allergies. Inactive chemicals in this product may cause allergic reactions or other complications. For further information, see your pharmacist.
Before using this medication, inform your doctor or pharmacist of your medical history, particularly of: heart problems (such as enlarged heart, mitral valve problem, chest pain, heart attack, irregular heartbeat), heart problems after taking stimulant drugs such as amphetamines (including chest pain, irregular heartbeat), high blood pressure, liver problems, mental/mood disorders (such as depression, mania, psychosis), and a personal or family history of a substance use disorder (suicide).
Sleep problems might impair your capacity to respond swiftly. Even if modafinil helps you stay awake, you may not be able to accomplish activities that demand rapid reflexes safely (such as driving). This medication may also cause dizziness. You may become dizzy if you consume alcohol or marijuana (cannabis). Do not drive, operate equipment, or do anything else that requires attentiveness until you are sure you can do it safely. Consume no alcoholic beverages. If you use marijuana, see your doctor (cannabis).
Inform your doctor or dentist about all of the products you consume before undergoing surgery (including prescription drugs, nonprescription drugs, and herbal products).
If you are pregnant or want to become pregnant, inform your doctor. You should avoid getting pregnant while using modafinil. Modafinil may be harmful to an unborn child. Inquire about non-hormonal birth control options while taking this drug and for two months after quitting it. It is uncertain if this medication goes into breast milk. Before breast-feeding, consult your doctor.

Interactions

Overdose

Dose Omitted
If you forget to take a dosage, take it as soon as you recall. If the next dosage is approaching, skip the missing dose. Take your next dosage at your usual time. To catch up, do not increase the dose. Do not take missing doses close to night as this may make falling asleep more difficult.
Storage
Store away from light and moisture at room temperature. Keep out of the bathroom. Keep all drugs out of the reach of children and dogs.
Unless otherwise directed, do not flush drugs or pour them down the drain. When this product has expired or is no longer needed, properly dispose of it. Consult your pharmacist or a garbage disposal firm in your area.
Side Effects
Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.
Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

- Black, tarry stools
- blurred vision or other vision changes
- chest pain
- chills or fever
- clumsiness or unsteadiness
- confusion
- dizziness or fainting
- increased thirst and urination
- mental depression
- problems with memory
- rapidly changing moods
- shortness of breath
- sore throat
- trembling or shaking
- trouble in urinating
- uncontrolled movements of the face, mouth, or tongue
- unusual bleeding or bruising
- unusual tiredness or weakness
Get emergency help immediately if any of the following symptoms of overdose occur:

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. - headache

- Back pain
- belching
- decrease in appetite
- diarrhea
- difficulty having a bowel movement
- dryness of the mouth
- dryness of the skin
- feeling of constant movement of self or surroundings
- flushing or redness of the skin
- heartburn
- indigestion
- muscle stiffness
- sores, ulcers, or white spots on the lips or in the mouth
- sour stomach
- stomach discomfort upset or pain
- stuffy or runny nose
- swelling
- tingling, burning, or prickling sensations in the skin
- vomiting
